Rank is a mechanic in EndWar. All units have a rank, which affects the unit's performance and what upgrades it can get.
Units increase their rank by gaining experience, which is achieved through defeating enemy units and securing Uplinks.
If a unit is downed by depleting its health to 25%, support units will be sent in to evacuate it and it will be able to return next battle while still preserving its current rank. However, a downed unit can still be destroyed outright if the enemy continues to attack it. If a unit is destroyed outright, it will be eliminated from the game and replaced by another unit at the Recruit rank for the next battle. Destroying enemy units outright does not grant additional experience, instead simply depriving the enemy commander of that unit.
As a unit increases in rank, it will gain a percentage bonus to its hit points and attack rating with each rank. In addition, it will be able to purchase new upgrades only available once it reaches a certain rank.
Ranks are not required for Mission Supports.
There are six ranks in the game:
- Recruit - the first and starting rank, represented by a single downward chevron. There are no bonuses to HP and Attack Rating.
- Regular - the second rank, represented by two downward chevrons. The is a +4% HP bonus, and a +2% Attack Rating.
- Hardened - the third rank, represented by three downward chevrons. There is a +8% HP bonus, and a +4% Attack Rating.
- Veteran - the fourth rank, represented by a single star. There is a +12% HP bonus, and a +6% Attack Rating.
- Elite - the fifth rank, represented by two stars. There is a +17% HP bonus, and a +8% Attack Rating.
- Legendary - the sixth and final rank, represented by three stars. There is a +22% HP bonus, and a +10% Attack Rating.
The last available equipment upgrades for any unit are gained at Veteran rank, with Elite and Legendary ranks simply adding additional health and attack point bonuses.
