M1A1 Abrams is the US Army's primary main battle tank (MBT) deployed via Force Recon.
Overview[]
The United States deploys the M1A1 Abrams as its primary main battle tank amongst its regular army units, while the Joint Strike Force use its more advanced counterpart, the M5A2 Schwarzkopf.
There was a time when the M1A2 was state-of-the-art. Its gas turbine engine, composite armor, and advanced targeting systems made it one of the most formidable tanks in the world. In 2020 the M1A2 is still a very capable tank, but is out-matched by newer designs. Still, its 120mm smoothbore gun is a valid threat on the modern battleground.
In Game[]
The M1A1 Abrams is only available once the player has Force Recon level 2. It spawns off map and travels to the designated location, and will remain there to defend that point until destroyed. Being a Tank, the Abrams is effective against Infantry out of cover, Transports, and Artillery within range. It is also weak against Gunships, Artillery out of range, and armed UAVs. To make up for its weaknesses, the Abrams is usually protected by the Humvees that it travels with.
Trivia[]
- The Abrams tank has been the main tank for the US military since the 80s, with several upgrades applied to the battle-tested platform. Despite this, the older M1 version is what is deployed by the JSF when the more recent models with all of the current issue upgrades would make more sense.
- Concept art for the M5A2 Schwarzkopf had it originally designated as the M1A3.
