Earth is the setting of the EndWar series. It is the home of the human race and presently has three major superpowers fighting for control over it.
State of the World in 2020[]

Earth
By 2020, Earth has experienced substantial hardship. The destruction of the Middle East killed millions and caused an international economic crisis of unprecedented proportions as oil rose to $800 per barrel. This crisis caused numerous nations around the world to collapse into failed states, particularly in the Southern Hemisphere, while others pursued national survival at any cost, invading or outright annexing oil-rich nations.
Climate change has also begun to take its toll, with droughts, super storms, and heatwave-induced forest fires being a major international problem, while the Arctic ice sheet continues to melt. Pandemics also seem to have become a problem as well, with a new type of influenza, "Influenza M" apparently causing a pandemic in 2020.
The threat of nuclear war has vanished thanks to the construction of the Space-Land-Air-Missile Shield. Created in response to the destruction of the Middle East, it consists of a network of laser satellites that can shoot down nuclear ICBMs. However, this has not brought peace and has instead paved the way for conventional conflict as nations can no longer defend themselves with nuclear weapons. International tensions are rising between three superpowers - the United States of America, Russia, and the recently formed European Federation. Europe and America have both become involved in a costly space race, placing weapons of massive destructive potential into orbit.
The Internet, once hoped as a means of communication across cultural lines, may have become censored, as news reports for each superpower make reference to an "extranet" rather than the Internet. Given that extranets are private networks that require authorization to access, the superpowers may have chosen to cut themselves off from each other and restrict their citizens' access to digital information.
Soon, Earth would be thrown into another global conflict, as the three superpowers would engage in a colossal showdown for mastery of the world during World War III.
